Ingredients
- 1 ¼ pounds 85% lean ground beef
- Kosher salt & ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for toasting)
- 4 brioche buns
- 4 slices American cheese
- Optional toppings: shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, sliced onion, dill pickles, mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise
Instructions
- Preheat a cast iron griddle over medium-high heat and lightly brush with oil.
- Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and season generously with salt and pepper.
- Place each portion on the skillet and smash down to form patties. Cook undisturbed for about 2 minutes until a crust forms.
- Flip patties, top with cheese, and cook for another 1.5 to 2 minutes.
- While cooking, toast the buns in another skillet with softened butter until golden brown.
- Assemble by placing the patties on the toasted buns and adding desired toppings.
