- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup onion (chopped)
- 2 garlic cloves (minced)
- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ lb ground pork
- 1 28 oz can diced tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- ½ tsp dried basil
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 16 oz full-fat ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- ¼ tsp dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 9 lasagna noodles (uncooked)
- 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (divided)
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté chopped onion in olive oil until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Incorporate ground beef and pork into the skillet; cook until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, dried basil, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with egg and seasonings; mix well.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish and layer meat sauce at the bottom. Add uncooked lasagna noodles followed by half of the ricotta mixture and one-third of mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers ending with noodles topped with remaining meat sauce and mozzarella.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes; remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until bubbly.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
