- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon ground mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
- pinch of salt
- 1 large vidalia onion (diced)
- 4 ounces sliced white mushrooms
- 1 teaspoon fresh chopped thyme leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 1/2 tablespoons flour or cornstarch
- 3 cups beef stock
- 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon butter
- kosher salt and pepper (to taste)
- Chopped fresh parsley or chives
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, panko, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, onion powder, pepper, and salt. Shape into four oval patties.
- Heat olive oil in a cast iron skillet over medium heat. Cook patties until browned (about 3-4 minutes on each side). Set aside.
- In the same pan, sauté onions until translucent. Add mushrooms and cook until softened.
- Stir in thyme, garlic powder, and flour (or cornstarch); cook for one minute.
- Gradually add beef stock while scraping up brown bits from the skillet. Stir in additional Worcestershire sauce and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat; return patties to the pan and simmer for about 5-7 minutes until cooked through.
