  • 1 cup bourbon (optional)
  • 3/4 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Soak the navy beans overnight in water; drain and rinse.
  2. In a skillet, brown the chopped bacon until crisp, then set aside.
  3. Sauté onions in the bacon grease until caramelized, add minced garlic for an additional two minutes.
  4. In a large pot, combine soaked beans with chicken stock, BBQ sauce, ketchup, bourbon (if using), molasses, maple syrup, brown sugar, smoked paprika, and cumin; bring to a boil.
  5. Transfer the mixture to the crockpot; stir in bacon and sautéed onions and garlic.
  6. Cook on high for 5-6 hours or low for 10-12 hours. Stir occasionally.
  7. Once cooked, let sit on warm for an additional 30 minutes to thicken.
