  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup Dutch-processed cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup dulce de leche

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix vegetable oil, buttermilk, hot water, eggs, and vanilla until combined.
  4. Gradually add wet ingredients to dry ingredients; mix on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth.
  5. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for approximately 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  6. For frosting, melt dark chocolate and heavy cream together over low heat; stir in dulce de leche until smooth.
  7. Once cakes are completely cool, frost the top of one layer and stack the second layer on top; frost the entire cake as desired.
