Ingredients
- 125g unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cups plain/all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 1 egg
- 3–4 large Granny Smith apples, diced
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- Cinnamon and nutmeg for flavor
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180C (350F). Grease and line an 8" square pan with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine melted butter, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until smooth. Add the egg and mix until fully incorporated.
- Press two-thirds of the mixture into the prepared pan for the base layer. Bake for about 15 minutes until slightly golden.
- While cooling, mix diced apples with additional flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg to create the filling. Spread over the baked base.
- Crumble the remaining mixture on top and bake for another 25 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool before cutting into bars.
